Any music suggestions?

FP

I'm completely sick of today's club banging music. It seems like most music today is just made to be played in clubs. I need some help finding new artists, because it's getting harder and harder to find GOOD music these days. My favorite genres of music are r&b/soul and hip-hop. I love old school music, and I like to listen to artists like Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, and Donny Hathaway. I also love music from the 90's and early 00's. I love listening to artists like Lauryn Hill, Aaliyah, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Common, 2Pac, Nas, Biggie, Slum Village, and others. More recently I've discovered the music of Allen Stone, Ayomari & Tiron, and Elle Varner. I love these artists because even though they're contemporary artists, they still have an old school vibe, and they're music doesn't suck. So basically I'm more into old school music than today's crap. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not a big fan of artists like Maroon 5. Some of there old stuff was good, but now they're all pop and not enough soul. Not that I don't like pop, just not today's pop, anyway.
I love Michael Jackson, but I'm looking for new artists. Stuff I haven't heard before. But definitely, suggestions for artists like him that are able to make good pop music, that is still soulful.

Provehito

PLEASE, don't bother to tell me how much you think any of my bands suck. Music is art and we are ALL entitled to our own taste in art - what you like to listen to is your business. If your opinions are negative, don't bother to share them. Thanks!

I'm a music junkie (indie & alt rock are my faves) & I'm looking for new musicians or single song suggestions.
My music taste is very eclectic. About the only styles of music I don't like are Rap/Hip Hop (the closest to this that I can tolerate is a band like the 'Redlight Kings'), Country, and hard-core thrasher music. I prefer male singers (not too high-pitched voice, '10 Years' is a little high for me) and the only female singer I really like is 'Florence + the Machine' (I'll listen to Adele and Evenscenes if they're playing). I like musicians that mix it up: blend styles of music (rock, classic, techno, heavy, & even a little rap) and each song is different from the other (some bands - one song after another sounds like the other, the albums are like one long song with pauses every 4 minutes or so!). Also. I CANNOT stand word/lyric repetition (not only is Justin Beiber's voice annoying - how many freakin' times can you say - 'Oh, baby, baby' - or whatever it is he 'sings'?!?)
I am not necessarily looking for bands that sound like these because I don't know that there are bands who's music or voices SOUND like them. I'm just hoping for some new ideas within these styles/genres.

Favorites (I like everything or almost everything by these musicians):
30 SECONDS TO MARS is my favorite band - I love their ability to write some ingenious lyrics and their ability to blend rock, punk, classic, etc. to make a truly unique, eclectic and yet recognizable sound.
LINKIN PARK - LOVE almost all their songs, just a few that I'm not crazy about
BLACK LAB - talk about eclectic (if you haven't heard of them, start with 'Anything', 'Remember', 'This Night' & 'Gates Of The Country')
Collective Soul
Phoenix
Snow Patrol
City Archaic
Civil Twilight
Creed
U2
OneRepublic
Ryan Star
Lifehouse
Red
3 Doors Down

Great (love most but not all their music)
Cold
Eels
Breaking Benjamin
Young The Giant
12 Stones
Remy Zero
Coldplay
Rush (Gavin Rossdale)

Good (love/like a few):
Five Finger Death Punch (love 'Far From Home')
Syntax
My Chemical Romance (love 'Sing')
Moby ('Extreme Ways')
Young The Giant
Cavo
Finger Eleven
A Day To Remember
Rise Against
Muse
Three Days Grace
Breaking Benjamin
Shinedown
The Script
Crossfade
The Fray
Arcade Fire
Decemberists
Blink 182
Kevin Rudolf's ('Let It Rock')
Augustana

OK, but just don't click with me:
Angels & Airways (a litte to whiny for me)
Paramore
Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
Avenged Sevenfold

Oldies but goodies:
INXS (original)
Depeche Mode
Peter Gabriel
Jesus Jones
The Who
Rolling Stones

Not crazy about (don't hate them, but really don't want to listen to them, sorry):
Owl City
Everclear
Adelitas Way
Red Hot Chili Peppers

CANNOT stand:
Justin Beiber
Kesha

I know I'm forgetting some!!!
I really appreciate all the positive comments so far. I'm stoked that there are people out their that share my taste in music. 90% of the time I mention the bands that I like to other people, their like "Who?"

To the one who would have married me if I hadn't ranked Avenged Sevenfold 'OK' : It's just one, and I didn't say I didn't like them, just not a top ranked favorite. And if I weren't already married, it might have been a match made in heaven! LOL!

Shout outs to my fellow Echelon (please join our Echelon page at http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150505653769571&set=a.10150505649469571.394459.731964570&type=1#!/pages/Echelon-New-England-30-Seconds-To-Mars-Fans-Unite/200618946624313 )

I knew I was forgetting some:
I CANNOT believe I forgot another fave: RINGSIDE - so AWESOME - ('Tired Of Being Sorry', 'Struggle', 'Dayglo', etc)!
Also like:
The Gaslight Anthem
Neon Trees
The Veils
Vega4
Kings Of Leon (some

How do remove stretch marks without lasers?

swagqueen2

I'm only 13, and I have stretch marks on my thighs. /:
I weigh.. 130 pounds.
Here's pictures(if you want to see them): http://beyouberealbeunique.tumblr.com/private/18703021009/tumblr_m0cbdqcMQY1r45nm0

Answer
Stretch marks are often the result of the rapid stretching of the skin associated with rapid growth. Stretch marks may also be influenced by hormonal changes associated with puberty, pregnancy, muscle building.
I have stretch marks but I have them on my hips :( I found that putting a bit of baby oil in your bath helps improve your elasticity of your skin and it also makes them appear lighter and makes them practically not visible. I done this everyday for about a month and they are now not visible. This is a cheap way as you dont have to use a lot of it and you can get it for about £1.50 for a bottle that should last well over a month. There is no way of completely getting rid of stretch marks as they are similar to scars. I also found that cocoa butter also works but you have to buy the quite expensive ones for it to work which is why I use baby oil as its a lot cheaper and works exactly the same.
Jojoba oil can help lighten marks and scars. If you have a scar anywhere on your body, apply jojoba oil to the area to help it fade.

Jojoba oil is particularly good for skincare. It penetrates into the skin and does not clog pores. It can be used on all skin types. It contains vitamin E and antioxidants which are great for fighting aging signs and moisturizing the skin. In addition it is also antibacterial making it great for treating acne breakouts.

Jojoba oil works in two ways. First its moisturizes your skin first and then diffuses into the skin to soften and smooth. So with regular application acne scars and other skin conditions can be lessened and in many cases healed completely.

I also found that having a slight sun tan camouflages them in more as it makes them turn more of a white-ish colour, If you are really paranoid by them, you could try using fake tan to cover them up but it sometimes makes them more obvious.

You can also get cream from your doctors which is used to cover up scars (such as burns) which they could give you but I think you would probably have to pay as you don't actually need it.

I dont know whether you live in the UK or not but if you do, there is this cream in boots and its £13.99 and its called "Scar removal" and it works really well as stretch marks are quite similar to scars.

I hope I helped and I hope they soon vanish!! xxx

piercing and tattoo article in the new paper, poll?

Kenney

In my new paper their was a piercing and tattoo article about kids wanting tattoos and piercings, and parents being against them

so here my question as a parent or if you were a parent what would your stand be on
tattoos
ear piercing
eyebrow piercing
lip piercing
nose piercing
naval piercing
tongue piercing
nipple

this is if you kid or teen came to you and wanted one, give a brief reason as to why or why not, and not because its gay, and rember its not you getting one its your kid (or if you had a kid)

my answer- tattoo- maybe, why do you want one? and come to me when you want the same tattoo for a long while (6 months or a year)
piercings-
ear- ok, i have one myself and i dont find anything wrong with it,- stretch ear lobs- absolutely not, its something you got to live with for your entire life, and i dont think you understand that yet
lip and tongue- no, the possible damage it can cause to your teeth is not worth it
eyebrow, navel, nose, nipple- maybe, do you have a good reason to want one? if they answer because it looks cool, then no, it looks cool is not a good reason, but their is some answers where i would say yes

Answer
If i was a parent (im only 17 so im still probably considered a kid :p) i would probably tell my kids to wait till there 18 or moved out to get a tattoo (because thats forever) but i dont understand the anti piercing things .. they come out there far from permanent (unless your going to stretch it) so id probably let my kid get any of those piercings

My mom is fine with me getting tattoos, as long as there not massive and they can be hidden (for jobs) but i think the fact that 2 years ago i wanted cherries on my hip and today if i had that id be trying to hide it or cover it up isnt a good sign (ill probably end up doing the same thing with my current tattoo ideas in like 2 years). i dont like the fact that its permentent .. that freaks me out

Piercings shes not so excited about (after 3 years of BEGGING she finally let me get my monroe pierced) and i havent taken it out in the 2 years of having it .. ive very happy with it

Personally i think id let my kid (if i had one) get any piercing .. as long as it wasnt a danger the there health. Something like webbing:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2106/1547632822_53af8b0459.jpg?v=0

I would NEVER let my kid get webbing because in my city most of the piercing shops wont do it for you because its so dangerous ... apparently a couple people have died from it ... things like this i would never let them have.

I also wouldnt let my kids have like everything pierced, thered be like a limit (ex. 2 on the face one somewhere else on the body etc.)

And i wouldnt pay for them to get things pierced, id make them save there money .. just like my mom makes me do, but id always go to the shop with them to make sure it was clean and safe.
Ears: She got my ears pierced when i was a baby, so thats obviously okay with her, but lately ive been stretching my ears =) shes was agianst that and i did it behind her back (the smaller sizes you wont even notice) but when she did notcie she was pretty mad about it, but has fianlly accepted it and is letting me go bigger
But if your kid wants to stretch there ears, if you go to a 2g or 0g is when you ears can shrink back to a normal size and look like you never had them stretched (and those sizes are pretty popular .. thats where most people stop. there also pretty big, a 0g is about the size of a quarter), any bigger and youll probably have to have surgury to sew your earlobes back together (im waaay passed 0g ahaha) .. i dont think my mom knows that though

Id probably have to let my kids stretch there ears ... since i have mine. My reason for getting minely stretched was because i truely believe it looks beautiful ... i remember being little and seeing some kind of national geographics type thing with the african tribes people and there stretched ears and i thought it was the most amazing thing ever (and i was like 7 soo it obviously wasnt me trying to look cool)

If they get there monroe
http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l2xh4s0v5V1qbbj98o1_500.gif

Mine doesnt touch my teeth (only gum) so thats why my mom let me get it instead of my bottom lip, so it wouldnt cause damage

My mom saids shell let me get my nose or eyebrow .. but im pretty sure thats only because she knows i dont like those piercings

Id let my kids get there septum:

http://cm1.theinsider.com/media/0/23/21/s_johansson_mom_shorts_small.0.0.0x0.192x275.jpeg

Because if you flip it up its like you dont even have a piercing there ... if they ever wanted to get a job but didnt want to take it out it'd be perfect! no one would ever know
