Can you get pregnant before your period?

bettyboopa

I had sex on a Saturday. I had my period Monday. It came early because it usually comes on Wednesday. I take birth control and I have been missing some so I would double up the next day or I would take it later than I should. Could I be pregnant? I am now feeling bloated and constipated. It was about 2 weeks ago that I had sex.

Answer
Technically you can get pregnant before you period and after your period. You should normally ovulate 14 days into your cycle. Cycle day one is the first day of your period. For those who say you can get pregnant anytime of the month is wrong. You only ovulate generallyonce and when you do, you only have a 24 to 36 hour period for the egg to get fertilized. I seriously doubt you are pregnant if you got your period. Also on your bc. don't double up. Take them at the same time everyday. Put them somewhere where you can remember them. Like for example beside your toothbrush. If you brush your teeth everyday then you will remember to take them. Good luck.

do you have chance of getting pregnant two days before period?

gurl

So it's two days before my period and I had sex for the first time. Protection was used but I'm not on the pill. When I used the restroom I had whitestuff come out of me. Could it be discharge or semen?? And could I have a high chance at getting pregnant two days before my period?

Answer
What you saw was probably semen. Two days before your period is due is not a fertile time. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Keep using protection.

Good luck.

Can you get pregnant a week before you period?

Emily

this is kinda random but it was going through my head too.
let's just say you have sex a week before your supposed to get your period, can you get pregnant?

Answer
Can you get pregnant a week before your period and can you get pregnant a week before you're "supposed" to get your period are two VERY different questions. The length of your cycle can change from month to month. So you may be used to a 28 day cycle and due to stress or diet end up having a 35 day cycle. Your fertile time is not based on when your period is, it's based on when you ovulate which is a moving target.

You are only fertile for 5-7 days out of your cycle. The time before ovulation can vary significantly even for the same woman from month to month. The time after you ovulate is much more consistent for the same woman but on average ranges from 10-14 days among women generally.

Assuming that you have sex 7 days before you actually start your period, it's extremely unlikely that you could get pregnant. In order to be fertile 7 days before your period begins, you would have to ovulate very late in your cycle and have a very short time between ovulation and your next period. 7 days is such a short time, in fact, that it would likely render you infertile with what is known as a luteal phase defect. Fertility drs say that you need at least a 9 day time frame between ovulation and your next period to get pregnant.

If you have sex 7 days before you think you're going to have your period and you're even 4 days wrong, then you could well be having sex smack dab in the middle of your fertile period.

If you would like a very good, readable and detailed book on the topic, pick up Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It's the bible for both people who are tracking their cycles to conceive and using it as a form of birth control.

can i get pregnant a couple days before my period?

janedoetw

OK, well, i am 24 and is in a relationship with this guy and we had sex. but he didn't pull out. i am a bit worried that i could get pregnant, but can you get pregnant a couple days before your period? i'm supposed to start within the next 2-4 days. can this happen? i have tried looking it up. all i can figure out is that you can only get pregnant when you ovulate. can an egg get fertilized in the uterus after ovulation? PLEASE HELP ME.

Answer
It is VERY unlikely to get pregnant a couple days before your period. At that point, you have already ovulated and the egg has died. The only risk is not knowing exactly when your period is coming. But if you are right and it is due in two-four days, there is pretty much no chance.

You ovulate at least 12 days before your period and your egg is only good for 24-48 hours. It is much more likely to get pregnant 2 days after your period ends than two days before it starts.

If you're not planning to go on birth control, start tracking your periods, and this will help you understand when the most fertile times are. Even with pull out, you want to avoid having sex during your most fertile times.
