We (my husband and myself) are hoping to concieve.. What are some of your tips on getting pregnant?

Answer
If you or your husband smoke, you need to quit. Smoking can significantly reduce fertility for both men and women, and it can also lower conception rates for couples. Smoking can reduce sperm counts, as well as affect the quality of sperm in men. As for women, it can make conception harder. However, there is still hope for smokers. Research has shown that men, who gave up smoking, experienced an increase in sperm count of up to 800%.

It may be the best time to modify your lifestyle in such a way, that you can reduce stress. Stressors will always be part of our lives, and although the links between stress and fertility are not yet clear, more and more doctors believe it exists. There are studies that have shown that women were able to conceive, after they had therapies aimed at reducing stress.

There is also a need to examine your diet. Research has shown that a lack of nutrients is common, among individuals who are having fertility problems. In particular, the study found out that couples having fertility problems had a lower intake of foods, which are rich in antioxidants. It may also help if you take vitamin supplements. A daily dose of 100 mg of Vitamin C can increase sperm counts up to 140%. Likewise, Vitamin E and selenium have been found to improve sperm motility.

It may help if you consult your doctor regarding certain nutrients and plants, which have been found to boost fertility for both men and women. Discuss with your doctor which supplements you can use to aid conception. There are already supplements that contain a combination of essential nutrients and even herbs, which can increase conception.

Obesity may also hamper a coupleâs desire to conceive. Thus, efforts at weight reducing are recommended. For some women, even reducing their daily caloric intake may improve fertility. Even as little as 5% of weight loss for women with polycystic ovarian disease, may encourage ovulation and pregnancy. Women with this condition donât usually ovulate, and they may have excessive male hormones, as well as insulin resistance.

Is there a natural way to get pregnant with fertility problems?

My husband has a low sperm count and we have been TTC for almost three years now, any tips?
To Kimberly S. That comment was uncalled for

Answer
There are certain dietary and herbal supplements and vitamins which are said to increase sperm count. I think L-carnitine is supposed to help. I would check for sure with a doctor or an herbalist. You can also check out the book "The Infertility Cure" by Dr. Randine Lewis. Acupuncture and stress relief is also said to help increase fertility, but this is just a theory. I know that after the hormone treatments and the expensive procedures, I am ready to try some natural remedies, at least for awhile. Good luck in whatever course you choose to take!

Emily Jean

My husbands count is 1.7 million. Morphology and motility are pretty good. We're planning on doing in vitro, but until then we're just hoping it may happen naturally. What are the chances that it will happen? I can't find any hard numbers when I google search, and maybe the percentage doesn't exist. I'm just looking for some hope, though it is nice after trying for this long to be able to relax and know why we're not getting pregnant.

Answer
Hi Emily,

As you probably know, low sperm count is anything under 20 million sperm. I don't have a way of putting a number on your chances of conceiving, but I there are some things you can do to increase your husband's sperm count.

The Mayo Clinic recommends several supplements that have been shown âsome promiseâ for helping men produce more sperm, including:

* Vitamin C
* Zinc
* Selenium
* Vitamin E
* Vitamin B-12
* Asian ginseng

Here are some other tips that may improve your chances of getting pregnant.
- Increase how frequently you have sex. Increasing the frequency of sex may increase your sperm count.
- Use lubricants your doctor recommends. Some popular lubricants such as Astroglide, K-Y jelly, and saliva have been shown to reduce sperm mobility, which decreases your chances of conceiving.
- No cigarette smoking. Smoking has been linked to sperm abnormalities.
- No (or little) alcohol Alcohol has been shown to lower men's sperm concentration
- No marijuana. Smoking pot has been linked to abnormal sperm function.
- Regular exercise and eat a diet rich in vegetables and fruits. Obesity is shown to lower menâs sperm count.

Best of luck to you and your husband!

I'm currently trying to conceive and I was wondering if anyone had some good tips and advice for that? My husband has low sperm count as well. I'm on Tricare as well and the only fertility treatment they cover is Clomid. Does anyone think Clomid would work if my husband has low sperm count?

Answer
Clomid won't help anything if he has low sperm count. All clomid does is make you ovulate and if your already ovulating it won't help. What I would do is Track your periods and ovulation. You can buy ovulation tests online or at Wal Mart of what not. Find out when you ovulate and make sure to have intercourse on those two days. During the rest of the time, at most I would only have intercourse every other day or with two day in between, giving him time to build his sperm up, but making sure its fresh sperm at the same time. That should really help. Other than that I would try to find out the cause of your husband's low sperm count.Not trying to say anything bad about you or your husband, but usually drugs and medication can cause it. It can also just be natural. If there is anything to correct there, I would, either way you should be able to conceive given enough time. Most couples can take up to two years to conceive.

Good luck and baby dustâ¥
