I'm 28 weeks pregnant and can't sleep?

Ellen

so I'm 28 weeks pregnant living in the uk and just can't get any sleep! I've tried warm milky drinks, putting pillows under my legs and back cooling the room down and relaxing and nothing works. it's 1:22am here now and for the last week I've got about an hours sleep every night and that's not until about 7am I've tried going for a walk but nothing seems to work has anyone got any tips? (sorry it's so long)

Answer
1. NEVER OVERSLEEP
Never oversleep because of a poor night's sleep. This is the most crucial rule. Get up at about the same time every day, especially on the morning after you've lost sleep. Sleeping late for just a couple of days can reset your body clock to a different cycle -- you'll be getting sleepy later and waking up later.

2. SET YOUR BODY CLOCK
Light helps restart your body clock to its active daytime phase. So when you get up, go outside and get some sunlight. Or if that's difficult, turn on all the lights in your room.
Then walk around for a few minutes. The calves of your legs act as pumps and get blood circulating, carrying more oxygen to your brain to help get you going.

3. EXERCISE
Keep physically active during the day. This is especially important the day after a bad night's sleep. When you sleep less, you should be more active during the day. Being less active is one of the worst things an insomniac can do.
Strenuous exercise (brisk walking, swimming, jogging, squash, etc.) in late afternoon seems to promote more restful sleep. Also, insomniacs tend to be too inactive a couple of hours before bed. Do some gentle exercise. A stretching routine has helped many people.

4. DON'T NAP
Do not take any naps the day after you've lost sleep. When you feel sleepy, get up and do something. Walk, make the bed, or do your errands.
While studying, get up regularly (every 30 minutes, or more often if necessary) to walk around your room. Do a gentle stretch. That will increase the flow of oxygen to your brain and help you to be more alert.

5. SET A BEDTIME SCHEDULE USING THESE TWO STEPS:
First, try to go to bed at about the same time every night. Be regular. Most people get hungry at 7 a.m., noon, and 6 p.m. because they've eaten at those times for years. Going to bed at about the same time every night can make sleep as regular as hunger.

Second, go to bed later when you are having trouble sleeping. If you're only getting five hours of sleep a night during your insomnia period, don't go to bed until just five hours before your wake-up time. For instance, if you've been waking up at 7 a.m., don't go to bed until 2 a.m. No naps! Make the time you spend in bed sleep time. Still some insomnia? Go to bed proportionately later. Then, as your time in bed becomes good sleep time, move your going-to-bed time back 15 to 30 minutes a night and do that for a week or so.
This is the opposite of what we want to do: we want to go to bed earlier to make up the lost sleep. Learn to do what many sleep laboratories teach -- go to bed later the night after losing sleep.

I need getting pregnant again after having a baby tips!?

Girl0nFire

I had a little girl about 9 months ago and I want another. My husband and I (he will be next month anyway) Have a very stable life and want another baby. I have been trying for 7 months and still no luck. I am a full time stay at home mom. Do any mom or dads out there have any tips? (oh and we had to try for like a year and a half to get pregnant the first time) Thank you! =]

Answer
hiya,
if you chart your cycle it will help as you will know when you ovulate.
each cycle you only have a 6day time scale to have sex in order to get pregnant,
4days before ovulation the day of ovulation and very unlikely but possibly day after ovulation. ( this is because sperm live up to 5days in a woman and an egg only 1day)
http://www.early-pregnancy-tests.com/inovtesstrip.html
^^ link about ovulation sticks. you can buy them cheap off amazon. they detect a surge in LH which happens just before you ovulate so you know when to have sex.
http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/bbt/bbtfaq.html
^^^ link about charting temperature.
if you take your temperature each morning you will see a rise in temp after you ovulate.

you can also chart cervical mucus. when you are fertile you will have watery or "egg white" cervical mucus that sperm can swim through easily.
cervical position is also handy.
when fertile your cervix will tuck up high and it will go soft. then tip will also seem more open than usual... all to allow sperm access.
if you google any of these you will get loads of info.
you can also try a type of root concentrate called soya isoflavone - it tricks your body into producing more hormones so you will ovulate earlier/stronger/later/multiple eggs depending on when you take it.

Sabrinna

It was two or three weeks after my period when I used my parents vibrator without cleaning it first. I only used it on my vagina hole tip, I didn't insert it but I did finger myself after that. My parents usually had sex around 10pm and I was using it around 3pm. I've ready asked in my previous question about the possibilities of being pregnant and all of the answers are no. But I haven't got my period (until today it's 5days late already) and sometimes there's a white liquid in my vagina. What is the white liquid? Am I pregnant?

Answer
You can't be pregnant without sex with a man... it's vaginal discharge..

Does a child need identification to fly, with grandparents?

Karen D

I am letting my parents take my 11 yr old on vacation, do I need to get her some identification, or will my parents be okay getting through security.

Answer
If it is a domestic flight, your child does not need any identification. If it is an international flight, your child will need a passport and possibly a visa.

That being said, you will need to give your parents a notarized letter stating that they have permission to take your child on a trip by themselves. This is for their protection due to the increase of child abductions done by relatives.

You should also make sure that the letter gives them full authorization to seek and obtain any and all medical attention for your child. In many countries, if they don't have authorization to seek and obtain medical attention for him/her, no one can help him/her if s/he gets sick or has an accident.

This document is very easy to obtain. You can get it from anywhere there is a notary. I know a lot of banks will provide notarial services for free or a very small fee for their clients who have an account with them. The post office also offers this service, as do lawyers offices, and the fee is very cheap (usually no more than $5).

A very simple but brief letter is all that is needed. It should include your and your spouses names, the name of your parents, your childs name, and what is allowed. An example:

We, _________ and _____________, give _____________ and ___________ our full consent to travel alone with our child __________________. We also give ______________ and __________ our full and unconditional consent to seek and obtain any and all medical attention for our child ________________ that they deem necessary.

You want the document to be specific enough that they won't get turned down at any point during their travels or denied medical treatment, but you also want to keep it vague enough that should the travel plans change (canceled flight, delayed flight, some sort of emergency, etc), they won't encounter problems either.

All you must do is have the letter typed up (but not signed). Take the letter, your drivers licenses (or other form of picture identification, such as a national ID card, passport, etc), and then you and your spouse will have to sign and date it in front of the notary. It's a very simple, fast, and easy process.

If there is no additional fee (and there usually isn't), get at least 1-3 extra copies. Why? Well, your parents will need to keep the original with them at all times for the length of the travel. I always like to keep the original plus 1-2 extra with me in case something happens to one, or an airline employee takes one. You should also keep a copy with you so that if need be you can fax it or send it to your parents.

You should also give your parents a notarized copy of your childs birth certificate. This will help to verify that you are truly the people who signed the consent form.

Another thing you should give them is your childs immunization book. That way if any emergency should arise (no matter where they are) the treating physician will at least have some verifiable information to go on. This book also usually includes what your chil is allergic to, and some small but very helpful notes from his/her doctor. Be sure to give your parents the name and number of your childs doctor as well, and, along with this, be sure they take your childs Medical ID card.

I've been flying internationally & domestically with my children since they were each 2 months (now 8&6, & 9 months), and I am currently pregnant with #4. At least three trips a year are the children & I traveling internationally (14+ hours each way) alone. We do another 8-10 international and domestic flights a year as a family. I have never had any problems with my children.

I wrote a small article about flying with children that goes more in-depth, gives security rules and regulations for the US, EU, UK, and Australia, offers tips and tricks for the travel, etc.

What are the side effects of having a retroverted uterus? Can I still get pregnant?

Answer
From http://www.womens-health.co.uk/retrover.asp

A retroverted uterus is the name given to a uterus that is tilted backwards inside of the pelvis. Normally, women are born with a uterus that is located in a straight up and down position inside of the pelvis, or with a uterus that tips slightly forwards, towards the stomach. However, some women have a uterus that tilts backwards, pointing towards the spine. Commonly referred to as a tipped uterus, this condition affects more than 20% of women worldwide. Generally associated with no health complications, a retroverted uterus can occasionally cause painful symptoms or signal an underlying health disorder.

What Causes a Retroverted Uterus?

In the vast majority of women with retroverted uteruses, causes are completely genetic. Many women are simply born with a uterus that is tipped in this position, and this is entirely normal. However, certain factors can cause a uterus that is in a normal placement to become retroverted. These causes include:

Pregnancy: During pregnancy, the uterus becomes enlarged and the ligaments that hold the uterus in place become weakened. As a result, many women find that their uterus becomes retroverted after they have delivered their babies.
Menopause: During menopause, estrogen levels drop rapidly in women. As with pregnancy, this can cause the ligaments that hold the uterus in place to weaken, allowing it to slip into a retroverted position.
Reproductive Health Problems: Certain reproductive health issues, including pelvic inflammatory disease and endometriosis, can cause the uterus to tilt backwards. This is because these illnesses can lead to scar tissue formation on the inside of the abdomen, forcing the uterus out of position.

What are the Symptoms of a Retroverted Uterus?

Generally, the majority of women suffering from a retroverted uterus experience no symptoms. However, if symptoms do present, the two most commonly-occurring symptoms include:

pain during sexual intercourse, particularly vaginal intercourse (dyspareunia)
pain during menstruation (dysmenorrhea)

This pain and discomfort is the result of pressure that the retroverted uterus places on the rectum and the ligaments around the tailbone.

Rare symptoms associated with a retroverted uterus include:

lower back pain
increased number of urinary tract infections
incontinence
pain while using tampons
fertility difficulties

Diagnosing a Retroverted Uterus

If you are experiencing symptoms of a retroverted uterus, you may want to make an appointment with your health care provider for an examination. By performing a few simple tests, your health care provider can easily diagnose the condition. Diagnosis usually consists of:

a pelvic exam
an abdominal ultrasound

Occasionally, it is difficult to differentiate a retroverted uterus from a pelvic tumor. In this case, your health care provider may have to perform a rectovaginal exam.

Are There Any Health Complications Associated with a Retroverted Uterus?

Few women with retroverted uteruses experience health complications as a result of their condition. However, sometimes a retroverted uterus can be a warning sign of another underlying reproductive issue, including pelvic inflammatory disease or endometriosis. Be sure to contact your health care provider if you are experiencing:

severe abdominal or pelvic pain
irregular menstrual periods
irregular ovulation or infertility

If left untreated, these conditions can have dangerous effects on your reproductive organs and overall health.

Will A Retroverted Uterus Affect Fertility?

Many women who have a retroverted uterus worry that it will affect their future fertility. However, this condition does not appear to affect conception in any way, and most women with retroverted uteruses will go on to experience healthy pregnancies. If you are experiencing difficulties getting pregnant, it could be a sign of an underlying reproductive problem. Be sure to contact your health care provider for assistance.

Treatment for A Retroverted Uterus

If your retroverted uterus is causing you a lot of pain or discomfort, you may want to consider treatment for the condition. Treatment options include:

Exercises: Women can perform knee-to-chest exercise in order to encourage the uterus to slip back into its proper place. Unfortunately, this tends to be a temporary solution for the problem.
Pessaries: A pessary is a plastic device that is worn inside of the vagina. It helps to support the uterus in the proper position. However, these devices can only be worn in the short term because of the risk for developing a vaginal infection.
Surgery: Surgery for a retroverted uterus is available. Known as the UPLIFT procedure, this procedure works to reposition the uterus by cutting and shortening the ligaments that support it. UPLIFT is a laparoscopic surgery that is performed with the aid of a small camera.
