Can babies make sounds within the womb?

baby making gurgling sounds on Understanding the Reasons Behind Baby Crying in Sleep
baby making gurgling sounds image

Freebird

I know this might seem like a really lame question, but I'm just curious if their vocal chords work and if they are able to cry or anything while still in the womb. When my mom was pregnant with my brothers last year I could swear that I sometimes heard soft noises, like gurgling sounds, and it didn't sound like a tummy rumble or anything like that.

Sorry if this is totally dumb. I just don't remember ever covering this in school & I'm curious.
That makes sense. Thx!

Answer
Actually, they can cry in the womb if they are way overdue, it isn't common at all though. Extremely rare.

11 day old newborn cries in pain when he farts and poops, is this normal?

trueeeblue

he cries and winces bringing his little legs up when he farts. when i hold him i can hear gas in his belly because of a gurgling sound it makes. i don't know what to do to help him, the only thing that calms him down is when i give him my breast to suck on while the gases are hurting him, i guess it comforts him. is there anything i can do for him?

Answer
Yes, it is very normal. Newborns struggle with digestion.

Crying more than 4 hours a day for no apparent reason is colic, and is usually caused by acid reflux. For a newborn baby to cry for 1-3 hours a day from simple gas etc. is very common.

It is just how newborns are made, crying is normal as long as it isn't more than 4 hours per 24, in which case you should consult your pediatrician.

Nursing or giving a pacifier is going to quiet him because he can't suck and cry at the same time. But this sort of crying is very normal, and what they are supposed to do.

Infant gas drops given with every feeding can help remove gas he ingests while nursing, but they are not necessary, and some argue not helpful. But they don't harm them, and some say they really do help. They don't break down has caused in the intestines though, which is what causes gas pain in most of us.

How long does it take for a severe allergic reaction to go away on its own?

get pregnant 35 on ... pregnancy over 35 years, pregnancy later in life, tips for getting
get pregnant 35 image
Q. Okay well I have had the hives and swelling for three days and the swelling is getting a little worse each day. It hurts to walk and now my hands feel really tight. I have been to the doctor about this already, my OBGYN actually, and they can't do much since I'm pregnant. I cant see a regular doctor until I am not pregnant. I have been taking Benadryl every 6 hrs which is safe for me to take, plus using hydrocortizone cream like my OBGYN suggested. I have been taking baths to relieve the swelling and help with the itch of hives. The benadryl is progressively getting less and less effective and the hydrocortizone cream only helps with the itching and the hives, but not the swelling. I don't know what else to do. My OB said if it doesnt get better in 48 hrs then I should call them back. She suggested putting me on a steroid medication which I am really against. I'm 8 months pregnant (35 weeks and 5 days). What else should I try in the meantime? The swelling is really getting to me, plus the itching is becoming unbearable and I have my baby shower to go to this weekend! :(

Answer
What are you reacting to? If your reaction is worsening it won't resolve, it can end ultimately by leading to anaphylaxis and could kill you.

I can see being against steroids, but it would proably be safer than continuing a progressing reaction.

Why do pregnant women who are 35+ have a higher risk of miscarriage?

Saver

As I understand, a miscarriage is when a woman falls or otherwise hurts herself and kills her baby. So are pregnant women 35+ somehow more clumsier than younger women?
Serious answers only please.

Answer
That's not the only reason for a miscarriage, a miscarriage can happen when there is something wrong with the foetus early on in pregnancy or with the womb or with the placenta - there are plenty of reasons.
However, the reason older women are at a greater risk is because her eggs are older and her partners sperm is older (assuming he is in his 30s too), also, women of this age generally have had far more x-rays than younger woman and Research has proven a link between having had x-rays and miscarriages. 35 is not that old but the risks are generally higher the older you get.

What else can I add to my recipe make chicken and vegetable stir-fry?

Farty McFa

Ingredients
1 large onion
2 large carrots
½ pack baby corn
½ pack mangetout
2 skinless boneless chicken breast fillets
2tbsp vegetable oil
1tsp curry powder
4tbsp chicken stock or water

P.S: Don't I need to add soy sauce too?

Answer
stir fry is all about cooking FAST & not over cooking (over cooking removes all the nutrition). you don't have to use as much soy sauce as you think, you could also try teriyaki sauce. hoisin sauce is a well kept stir-fry secret.. only use a spoonful though, it's SUPER easy to over do it (find it in the asian food section OR by the BBQ sauces). i would definitely add a little garlic to your recipe. you could also try bamboo shoots, BROCCOLI, water chestnuts, bean sprouts, mushrooms, red bell pepper, asparagus, sesame seeds, yellow squash, zucchini.. anything really. the secret to good stir-fry is to slice everything super thin (so it cooks fast), have it ready to go before you start cooking, use high heat, and to add the food in order of longest cooking time to fastest cooking time.

ps- if you use asparagus, use thin stalks & shave the sides so it cooks faster. i <3 stir-fry! have fun!!

What is the best stabilizer for machine embroidering broadcloth?

baby making hoops on Little Tikes Easy Score Basketball Set- Boys | ToysRUs
baby making hoops image

I just machine embroidered a baby and took it off the hoop and there are puckers around the fabric. I don't know if the stabilizer material is not strong enough or what. I am making pillows and the broadcloth is going to be sewd onto a nice cotton fabric but I don't want the broadcloth to have puckers all around it or be too stiff.
I am using tear away. Thanks so much for all your suggestions, I will try them tonight!

Answer
Sometimes it is the design that is too dense or has been digitized with stitching that is too short. You can enlarge the design (just a bit) - there should be this option on the machine and this may help.

Other options:

Pre wash and dry the fabric you are going to embroider.

Determine the direction of the straight of grain (less stretch).

Use starch to make the fabric more stable.

Hoop so the straight of grain is in alignment with the indicators on the hoop.

Use a basting stitch around the perimeter of the design.

If the fabric is still puckering, use two sheets of the tear -away, at right angles to each other. Don't know why, but is often recommend to do this.

More information here - http://www.emblibrary.com/EL/elprojects/SimpleProduct_ELP.aspx?CS_ProductID=PR1234&CS_Catalog=Elprojects

Always test the design and stabilizer on like fabric before doing any project. Takes time, but is less frustrating in the long run.

How can I transfer full rights of my unborn hild to a single man?

Straight T

hi,
Does anyone know how this works?
Say a woman is 34 weeks pregnant, and has a friend who is a single man - also the father of other children, can she legally simply give the baby to him when it is born if he is not the father?
What comes into consideration?
Does he have to go through the long tedious task of adoption processes, or is it as simple as signing over your parental rights, and giving up yours?
Thanks

Answer
Laws differ greatly from state to state. There are a lot of variables: some states allow you to sign TPR (termination of parental rights) before birth, some only allow it after, and they vary on the length of time. You'll have different periods of time to change your mind.
The biological father of your baby also has rights, and would have to agree to whatever plan you are making. If he doesn't know, he would need to be contacted and told, and would need to sign TPR, as well.
The other variables are too numerous to mention. If you are talking about this man adopting your baby, very few states don't require a home study and the "official" process. Guardianship is a different thing altogether.
Because you'll want everyone protected, and to make sure what you are doing is legal, the first thing you should do is contact a lawyer. Most important, you want to do what is best for your child. Remember that the laws/rules are in place to make sure the best thing is happening for the baby - not just to make everyone jump through hoops. Try to find a lawyer who will give you a free consultation, if money is an issue. Because the laws are so different, and so specific, you really shouldn't proceed with this plan until you have spoken with an attorney.

Just a little poll. I always hear of unnamed women "trapping" guys but never met actually heard of one. So here is my questions:

Have you tried to get pregnant/get your partner pregnant secretly?
What gender are you?
How old are you or were you at the time of the attempt?
Were you successful?

If you are someone on the other side, here are some questions:
What gender are you?
Why do you think that they tried to trap you into a pregnancy?
Did you use birthcontrol and what type?

Answer
I'm female & no I never tried to "trap" a man into getting me pregnant

How should i go about getting birth control?

I'm currently 18, and have been wanting birth control for sometime. i dont want it for the obvious reason (to not get pregnant) i want it for my acne. and every time i talk to my mom about it she blocks it out and says its "not good for you". and since i live at home im still under my parents insurance. but i figure ill have to go to a planned parenthood clinic secretly and have the exam and so on. ill have to say i dont have insurance and pay the price for the visit and the pills...about how much would this cost? is there anything else i can do? tips?

I'm sorry to say this but I agree with your mother, birth control really is not good for you. It's a lot better than it used to be but still. If you really want to deal with acne, talk to a dermatologist.

What motivates you to eat right and workout?

baby making iphone app on Baby On The Fly Blog Archiv iPhone Case for Baby
baby making iphone app image

Christina

How do you stay fit? And what makes you stay fit?

Answer
I ride a road bicycle mostly. What motivates me is the ride itself, I can take myself places pretty far and every day I try to go a little bit farther. I can feel my muscles and lungs working hard and I know that I am getting stronger. I try to ride every day, I don't want to let go of any of the progress that I've made since I first started. Hills that killed me when I first started are now extremely easy to conquer and that makes me proud of myself. Going up an intense hill, feeling like you're going to pass out, feeling your heart jumping out of your chest, your lungs can't work any harder, then you're at the top and coming down the other side feels amazing at the end. Good old endorphins!

It's mostly a unwillingness to allow yourself to take steps back in your progress.

As for eating, I say this stupid phrase almost every day that irritates my boyfriend, "Making healthy choices every day." I eat vegetarian but I have a love of salty or spicy junk foods. On the occasion that I do indulge, instead of eating an entire bag of hot cheetos, I'll eat only one or two or ten, instead of an entire 99 cents bag, to satisfy the craving then put the bag out of sight or just give it to someone. I order water at sit-down restaurants 90% of the time, it's always unlimited and refreshing and costs nothing (saving money!). I never order dessert, and when I eat the main course, I'll ask for a half-portion or lunch-portion, it's usually a tiny bit cheaper, or offer my food to other people I'm with. I never take anything home unless it's not for me because I know I'll eat it as soon as I get home and as much as I hate leaving food on the plate that they're just going to throw away, I remember that it's better in the trash than in me and next time I'll order something smaller. If you live in an area where there are a lot of homeless, take the leftovers and give it to them.

I almost always say no to sweets. It's mainly the fact that they cause cavities that is the big motivator, calories second. I love my teeth!

There are a lot of meat-substitutes that are high in protein as well as low in fat and calories that are pretty close to the real thing. Look out for Morning Star or Boca vegetarian and vegan meat-substitutes in the frozen food section of your supermarket. Morning Star makes an awesome vegan Barbeque Riblet. There's also a brand called Amy's in the frozen foods that makes excellent stuff. Also, try Lean Cuisine or Smart Ones, frozen microwave meals. Some of the recipes are amazing. And drink a lot of water. It fills you up a bit and keeps you hydrated. I drink a lot of fruit-smoothies. I blend ice, fresh and frozen fruits together with juice at home. I also try to stay away from "diet" beverages with artificial sweeteners but that's just a personal preference. Plain old water never lets me down.

You have to know yourself and know your habits so you can break them. "Making healthy choices every day" refers to instead of getting a large popcorn at the movies, you make the choice to get the medium or small despite the fact that they next size up is only 50 cents more. Ignore the deals and focus on the money you're saving by not over-indulging, even if it's just 50 cents. It all adds up in the end. It also refers to, instead of eating a whole plate of pasta, you left a few bites behind and next time you know to order a smaller portion. I go with the "eat what you want and don't torture yourself" sort of way so it's all about moderation and portion size. Stop eating when you're satisfied. Baby steps. I used to count calories on an iphone app but I don't have the attention span for that any more.

Good luck!

Best way to track my fitness with iPhone apps?

philscalis

I have a degree in exercise science and am going to school for physical therapy now and really want to track my fitness now that I have an iPhone and I know the importance of health. However, after researching apps I'm not sure the best app or app combination to use. I want to get a heart rate monitor (wahoo or polar?) and many of the apps will sync with it. I want to track calories, GPS run mapping capabilities, nutritious intake, and I want to track my strength training regimen (sets, reps, etc). The my fitness pal app seems to do some of these things and you can also tie in other apps or sync them with it. However there are so many other ones and I want to know the best way to do this if anyone can help. So far I have downloaded: my fitness pal, endomondo, fitocracy, sportstracker, runkeeper, real intelligence fitness app, and digifit icardio. If someone can help me out it would be much appreciated. I would try them out but don't want to give my info and make an account for all of these apps if they aren't what I want.

Answer
I track some of the same stuff you do, but not everything and I've tried some of the products you have, but not all. However, here's my take:

1. I use Runkeeper as my basic app. I'm primarily a runner and so are most of my friends. It links easily to facebook if you are interested in that. For me, this is how I communicate with my running community. It has some other basic cardio functions in it as well (elliptical, etc)
2. Runkeeper has a GPS function to be used with the iphone, it's generally accurate within 0.1-0.3 mile. However, when I want to be really accurate, I still default to my garmin which I can still link to my Runkeeper account. (ie, when I'm racing or want to track elevation)
3. Realize also that when you use GPS function on your phone, it will wear down the battery very quickly. I'll use the Runkeeper GPS function if I'm running or cycling an hour or less, but it's not ideal for long distances.
4. Runkeeper and probably most fitness apps will link to a heart rate monitor. However, I'd first ask why you intend to use one? As a PT, myself, I've come to the realization that unless you have a medical condition that warrants it, tracking heart rate is overly burdensome for little pay off. Just used your rate of Rate of Perceived Exertion. Whether you are doing intervals or tempo workouts, it's your exertional effort that's the real issue. Most of the established "guidelines" for heart rate during exercise were established for patients recovering from cardiac events, not necessarily for healthy adult fitness. So, unless you want to get into research about cardiac effort, I'd say don't bother. I suppose you can use it if you want to get a MORE accurate idea of your caloric burn, but I have better options for that (more later). I DIDN"T use one for years, mostly because I take a beta blocker which throws the whole target heart rate out the window anyway. I'm using one now (more on that in a minute) only because I'm pregnant and NEED to make sure my heart rate doesn't go over a certain amount (and I have arguements about that anyway). I use the iphone app with it, but haven't linked it to my RK. It does record it on the wahoo site, but I never go back and look at it. The wahoo site also does GPS and if you get the hardware, you can link it with your bike or a foot pod.
5. If you do want to use a HR monitor, I use the wahoo. My husband and I both have Garmin 910XT's and even though he got the heart rate monitor for it, he's happier with the wahoo. Again, he's not even using it anymore and I am. However, I don't even bother logging my heart rate...I use it only as a warning system. I do think I can link it with RK, but haven't bothered. Once I have the baby, I'll stop using it. Not sure why hubby doesn't like the garmin monitor...I just took his word for it.
6. Now, onto strength. RK doesn't really have a place to log this. I used MapMyRun for awhile which at least gave me an idea of how long I was weight lifting and an approximation of calories. In my opinion, if you are looking for an app that does everything, I'd say be prepared for a really complicated app. I found that the more features it has, the less user friendly it becomes. This is how I felt about MMR. For strength training, I'd consider a separate app. Same thing goes for nutrition. There are probably apps out there designed just for that which are much more user friendly.
7. Back to calorie counting. All the apps give you a basic ESTIMATION of your calories burned based on your weight and work out parameters. Even if you are using a heart rate monitor, again, this is only an ESTIMATE. Unless you are in a lab, all these tools provide estimates only. However, if you really want to know what your body is using and burning, I'd recommend the Body Media System. It's about as accurate as you can get with calorie count without having to be in a lab. The web app also has a nutritional log.

So here's my take in a nutshell:
1. Use a basic app for your cardio. Runkeeper is my personal favorite. Only use the GPS for shorter workouts
2. Use a separate GPS (I've only used garmins) if you want to be really accurate with your distance or if you are doing a long work out and simply sync it to your cardio app (like RK) from the garmin site.
3. Don't bother with a HR monitor unless you have a medical reason to do so
4. Use a separate app for your weight lifting and nutrition.
5. Consider a body media system if you REALLY want an accurate calorie count. It's expensive new, but I got a Core basic system used on ebay for $32. (myself, I'm content using the basic estimates from my cardio app).

Maybe there's an app that does everything, but I find that it gets too complicated....I don't want to spend 30 minutes logging my info.

How great of a gift is a Diaper Cake & would you buy one?

making baby's 1st birthday cake image
Q. I started making Diaper Cakes for my baby shower March of 2009 & had a blast with it.. since then I have made Diaper Cakes for not only baby showers, but also babies 1st Holidays & Birthdays.. Would you buy a Diaper Cake for a baby's 1st holiday or birthday? if so what's the most you would spend on a Diaper Cake?

Answer
I love diaper cakes and received one with my first baby for my baby shower. My aunt made it herself so she only bought the diapers. They now have kits that show how to make your own! :) I personally loved the diaper cake because of the way the diapers were rolled up. I could stash extras in the car and diaper bag and it didn't take up much room. It is a great gift to receive. With that being said, I would buy one for someone but wouldn't spend anymore than about $50-$75. :)

How did you celebrate your kids 1st birthday?

Maximillia

My baby boy's 1st birthday is coming up, and I need good advice for a celebration party! Also, as I don't want to make him a cake containing sugar, I need advice on what to give him instead. It's not like I'm never gonna give him sugar, I just can't see the point in giving him sugar as a reward.

Answer
Hi Maximillian. I'm Brenda, the Community Manager for Yahoo Shine and the mother of twin boys who just turned 3. :) Angel's answer sounds like so much fun but if money is a concern, a park with a big grass area will also do in a pinch! Most 1-year olds are barely (if) walking so have plenty of blankets for them to crawl/lie/scoot around. Another idea is to host the party at your house and use your son's current love of Elmo, or trains, or fire trucks as your party theme. We had a storybook party for my sons' first birthday. Everyone brought their favorite book and we read aloud and sang nursery rhymes.
One idea for a cake with no sugar is "Baby's 1st Smash Cake" sometimes known as a "Banana Smash Cake" Another idea I love is to substitute the cake for a huge rainbow -- use different fruits for each color of the rainbow.
Me and my twin mom friends find it wise to host our birthday parties from 10 - Noon so the afternoon stays free for a much-needed nap (your little one will likely go down quickly from all the excitement). Lastly, don't stress and enjoy yourself. Best of luck!

My rabbit already ripped her fur out a month ago because she was pregnant. Her kits are 1 month old now.

Today, I see her almost bald where her chest is... And a bunch of fit in the nest again. Why is she doing that?

And no, she hasnt had any contact with a buck since.

Answer
Has not had any contact with a buck since when? If he was in the cage when she kindled, he bred her again at that time, immediately after she gave birth. SInce you say the kits are a month old, my guess is that this is what has happened.

What are the best days in your cycle to get pregnant?

tanker_tot

My fiancee and I have been trying to get pregnant for a few months and we can't seem to get the timing right. What are the best days during the normal cycle to have intercourse in order to get pregnant?

Answer
well first you have to figure out how long your cycle is. by cycle i mean how long it is from the first day of your last period to the first day of your next period. you count the first day of your last period but not the first day of your next period. then you have to figure out when you ovulate. for example.. i have a 28 day cycle so im supposed to ovulate between days 10 and 19. this window is so large because you may ovulate early or late. so counting the first day of your last period count 10 days and thats the beginning of your fertile period. if you have a 28 day cycle then your ovulation day would usually be on day 14. if its 29 days then your ovulation day would be on day 15 and so on and so forth. my advice is to have sex either every other day or every 2 or 3 days from the time you get off your period until about a week before you period is supposed to start so that you will always have sperm in your body waiting for the egg. i know it sounds gross actually written but thats what really happens. also you can got to the store and get an ovulation predictor kit. there are usually seven sticks. those are usually pretty accurate. if your cycle is irregular you would have to average your cycle lengths and go from there.

hoped this helped. best wishes.

When does fertility start to decrease?

tips on getting pregnant at 40 on Woolworths Baby and Toddler Club - 38 weeks pregnant
tips on getting pregnant at 40 image

Aurora Bel

I'm 28 now and have one beautiful daughter. But, we're not planning to have another child anytime soon for a number of reasons. But, there is a part of me that still wants to have another (biological) child. So, at what age do the chances of getting pregnant start to fall or drop dramatically? What are the chances of getting pregnant past 35 w/o the use of any fertility treatments? Does anyone know where I can find reliable information or statistics??? Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer my question!

Answer
More women today find they want to put off pregnancy until their careers are well established, or until they've gotten more life experience. However, research shows that pregnancies in women over the age of 35 suffer from more problems than those in younger women. How great are the risks compared with the benefits, and what do you really need to be concerned about?
How Old is Too Old to Have a Baby?
According to the Mayo Clinic, a woman's fertility peaks between the ages of 20 and 24. However, fertility rates remain relatively constant through the early 30s, after which they begin to decline:

At age 30 to 35, fertility is 15 to 20 percent below maximum. From age 35 to 39, the decrease is 25 to 50 percent. From 40 to 45, the decrease is 50 to 95 percent.

Technically, any woman who has not gone through menopause, and who does not have other reproductive problems, can become pregnant. Successful pregnancies have been reported in women as old as 59.

Pregnancy Risks After 35
The risk of miscarriage increases after age 35; by the early 40s, more than 50 percent of pregnancies end in miscarriage. Many of these occur at an early stage and may not even be detected, or may be mistaken for a late period. The majority of these miscarriages are due to the chromosomal abnormalities in the fetus.

Other age-related factors affecting fertility include less frequent and/or irregular ovulation, and endometriosis, in which tissue that attaches to the ovaries or fallopian tubes interferes with conception.

When they do get pregnant, women older than 35 may have a higher risk of developing gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and placenta previa. There is also a potentially higher risk of having a baby with low birth weight, and of chromosomal abnormalities such as Down syndrome.

Aiming for a Positive Pregnancy
Although older women may find it somewhat harder to achieve pregnancy, the overall outcomes are excellent. In fact, birth rates for mothers in their 30s and 40s have increased dramatically over the past 25 years. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the birth rate for women age 35 to 39 nearly doubled between 1978 and 1998. Between 1981 and 1997, the birth rate for women in their 40s increased 92 percent.

If you're over 35 and thinking of getting pregnant, a few simple tips will help minimize the risks:

Start taking prenatal vitamins
See your doctor for prepregnancy checkups
Eat well
Exercise regularly
Cut out nicotine, alcohol, and drugs

Finally, if you don't succeed in getting pregnant within six months, see a reproductive endocrinologist (fertility specialist) to discuss next steps.

2 of my friends are trying to have a baby together. One is a gay male and the other a straight female. My male friend ejaculated into condom. He was unable to get the condom to my female friend until 4 hours later. Once my female friend got the condom full of sperm she rubbed it in her vagina. I don't think this method will work but they insist it will. What do you think? Can they get pregnant this way?
I don't agree with what they are doing. I think its gross and I think they should go the old fashion route and just have sex.

Answer
It does not make sense like this... If he wants to help his friend to get pregnant, they should do it differently... Ideally, they meet during the fertile window of her, to be tested with cycle tracking and LH tests. Once she's in her fertile window he should ejaculate in a cup, similar to cups you would use for an urine test. Then she can take the contents of the cup and inseminate herself with a pipette or syringe. The insemination should be no longer then 30 minutes after the ejaculation. 4 hours is way too long. Most likely all the sperm will already be dead. They should make sure that he does not have any STD's and ideally they should test his semen to make sure he is fertile. A lot of couple that try to have a baby like this set-up an agreement that covers responsibilities and intentions.

How long can I keep opened baby food jars in the fridge?

making baby food 7 month old on BABY FOOD CHART TO 12 MONTHS OLD
making baby food 7 month old image

~September

I just started my 7 month old on baby food, and she isn't eating much at all, not liking it. So I always have alot left, and I'm unsure how long I can keep it in the fridge and feed her leftovers. Any ideas or advice would be so helpful!

Thanks so much!

Answer
If you feed from the jar you shouldn't reuse it because of bacterial growth and the saliva braking down the food and making it watery.
If you feed from a bowl
Meat is 2 days
fruit & vegetables is 3-4 days
This is what it says on the jars I have.

Why do they put allergenic foods in baby food?

bug

I am trying to keep allergenic foods away from my 7 month old daughter, as I've read there are many foods she shouldn't have until her first birthday. Why then do baby food companies put strawberries, egg whites, citrus, and milk products in baby foods if babies aren't supposed to eat them?

Answer
Firstly baby food companies have only one person's interests at heart: their shareholders. If they really cared about babies they wouldn't break the law (in Canada and other places) and advertise baby food for babies under 6 months of age, they wouldn't add fillers to cereal, or annatto to foods. In fact there wouldn't be any "infant" cereal on the market at all and probably no pureed foods.

Secondly there is no agreement about withholding foods any longer than 6 months. There is really no good evidence that it prevents allergies, or any agreement as to which foods should be avoided.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9646449/page/2/
Dr. David Ludwig of Children's Hospital Boston, a specialist in pediatric nutrition, says some studies suggest rice and other highly processed grain cereals actually could be among the worst foods for infants.

"These foods are in a certain sense no different from adding sugar to formula. They digest very rapidly in the body into sugar, raising blood sugar and insulin levels" and could contribute to later health problems, including obesity, he says.

The lack of variety in the American approach also could be a problem. Exposing infants to more foods may help them adapt to different foods later, which Ludwig says may be key to getting older children to eat healthier.

Food allergy fears get some of the blame for the bland approach. For decades doctors have said the best way to prevent allergies is to limit infants to bland foods, avoiding seasonings, citrus, nuts and certain seafood.

But Butte's review found no evidence that children without family histories of food allergies benefit from this. Others suspect avoiding certain foods or eating bland diets actually could make allergies more likely. Some exposure might be a good thing.

And bring on the spices. Science is catching up with the folklore that babies in the womb and those who are breast-fed taste â and develop a taste for â whatever Mom eats. So experts say if Mom enjoys loads of oregano, baby might, too.

http://www.babycenter.com/204_babies-who-eat-peanuts-may-be-less-likely-to-develop-peanut_10302691.bc
The prevalence of peanut allergy was 1.85 percent among the U.K. students and 0.17 percent among the Israeli children, said the study, which also found that 69 percent of Israeli children were eating peanuts at nine months of age, compared to only 10 percent of the British children.

"The most obvious difference in the diet of infants in both populations occurs in the introduction of peanut," wrote lead author Dr. George Du Toit and colleagues. But they cautioned that more research is needed before the U.K. and other countries change their guidelines that advise avoidance of peanut consumption during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and infancy.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/6762795.stm
From these observations and her own studies she developed her feeding programme, called Baby-Led Weaning.

According to this programme, during the first six months babies should receive milk only.

She said: "In 2002 the World Health Organisation backed research that found breast or formula milk provided all the nutrition a baby needs up to the age of six months.

"That research said feeding a baby any other food during the first six months would dilute the nutritional value of the milk and might even be harmful to the baby's health."

These findings have been incorporated into government recommendations on baby feeding.

http://www.westonaprice.org/children/nou...
Finally, respect the tiny, still-developing digestive system of your infant. Babies have limited enzyme production, which is necessary for the digestion of foods. In fact, it takes up to 28 months, just around the time when molar teeth are fully developed, for the big-gun carbohydrate enzymes (namely amylase) to fully kick into gear. Foods like cereals, grains and breads are very challenging for little ones to digest. Thus, these foods should be some of the last to be introduced. (One carbohydrate enzyme a baby's small intestine does produce is lactase, for the digestion of lactose in milk.1)

[...]

Babies do produce functional enzymes (pepsin and proteolytic enzymes) and digestive juices (hydrochloric acid in the stomach) that work on proteins and fats.12 This makes perfect sense since the milk from a healthy mother has 50-60 percent of its energy as fat, which is critical for growth, energy and development.13 In addition, the cholesterol in human milk supplies an infant with close to six times the amount most adults consume from food.13 In some cultures, a new mother is encouraged to eat six to ten eggs a day and almost ten ounces of chicken and pork for at least a month after birth. This fat-rich diet ensures her breast milk will contain adequate healthy fats.14
Thus, a baby's earliest solid foods should be mostly animal foods since his digestive system, although immature, is better equipped to supply enzymes for digestion of fats an

What are all the ways they do abortions?

im pregnant and my boyfriend does not want the baby he wants an abortion. im so against it and so is my family. i am a little young for a child but the way they do abortions are terrible. i would rather raise my baby by myself then get one. but what exactly are the ways they do them . i want my boyfriend to see how bad they are and that we cant do that to our child.

please help and describe them!!

thanks. xx

Answer
Depends on the type of abortion that is performed. This lovely lady on Tumblr has gathered some information about the different forms (don't worry; there are no pictures, just straightforward text describing each procedure.):

Medical Abortion: http://bebinn.tumblr.com/post/5327539627/warning-graphic-medical-stuff-ahead

Suction Aspiration: http://bebinn.tumblr.com/post/5372204859/warning-graphic-medical-stuff-ahead

Induction Abortion: http://bebinn.tumblr.com/post/5756006034/warning-graphic-medical-stuff-ahead

Intact Dilation and Extraction: http://bebinn.tumblr.com/post/5855829391/warning-graphic-medical-stuff-ahead

Jezebel also has an excellent write-up of what abortion entails: http://jezebel.com/5734665/the-girls-guide-to-having-an-abortion

Please know that the decision is nobody's but your own- nobody, not your boyfriend, not your family, NOBODY can force you to have an abortion against your will. Do not be scared or ashamed to stand up to him and say "My body, my choice!"- in the end, this is not about abortion procedures (after all, when done early enough, there is little, in my view, that is bad/terrible about them), but rather about your right to do with your body as you please.

What is considered a healthy weight for twins at birth?

how to get pregnant with twins at 40 on 35 weeks pregnant with twins at my wedding!
how to get pregnant with twins at 40 image

sebbieswif

My first child, a singleton girl, weighed 7lbs 7oz and was 20in long. So far I'm 34 weeks pregnant with twin girls and they are thinking baby A is around 4lbs 12oz and baby B is about 5lbs even, but they can be way off and I know this because at my 40 week check up with my first they guessed her to be 9lbs! So I just wanna know whats normal? And not sure if it makes a difference but I've gained 33lbs so far.

Answer
that is pretty good weights for twins, when my twins were in the nicu they would have been able to go home after they hit 4 lbs but didnt get to get discharged till 6 pounds... they will most likely go to the nicu to get assesed after they are born, in order to be able to go home right away they have to be able to maintain their body temps, have no issues with breathing, and be able to feed and have no issues while feeding, since yours will be so far along there are very slim chances they will have these issues, but the risk is always there

How far along were you when you delivered your twins, and how much did they weigh?

Renee

I am 33 weeks pregnant with twins, and just curious about their potential sizes. If you or the babies had any complications, what were they?

Answer
My husband's cousin had her twins at 40 weeks and they weighed exactly 7lbs each. I'm in the hospital now and the woman across the hall from me delivered at 38 and her girl was 5lbs 11oz and the boy was 6lbs 13oz... Her little boy is 3oz more than my boy who was 39 weeks.
