My Computers Making A Weird Sound?

Ashley L

My PC Is Making Sounds But Not Showing Why?
My New PC Seems To Make Certain Sounds For No Reason?
To whom ever can help me, I recently got a new PC that now has the Windows Vista on its system & even though i've pretty much got use to the new enhancements for some reason at times my computer will make one of two different sounds as i will describe below:

1. Makes a sound like a baby criket.
2. Makes the same sound as if when u have completed downloading something & it makes that "completed sound".

My computer makes this sound for like 30secs-1min for no real reason as there is no indication on screen that i can see as to why it makes this annoying sound its only when my speakers are on & its not in side the PC got any ideas?!?!

Can someone please tell me how to get rid of it that is if they have any idea on what it could be....Maybe my PC isn't configured right & the computers trying to tell me by makin these noises i dunno?

Someone Help!!!

Thankyou.

Answer
A previous answerer suggested modifying the sounds associated with various Windows events. I would second that suggestion and add that even by browsing with it you may find what is causing the sound (and be able to disable it). Also...

The following presumes that the sound is an actual audio file being played by Vista...
I would suggest that the next time the sound occurs, preferably while the sound is still happening, you check the Notification area of the taskbar (unhide any icons as well). Mouseover anything you don't recognize or that is showing activity, and it may show you what is happening that could be causing the sound.

If you don't see anything there, the next thing to try would be to have a look at your running processes. This also is ideally done while the sound is occurring. You can view your running processes by pressing SHIFT+CTRL+ESC together. This opens the Task Manager to the Processes tab. Click on the CPU heading to organise the list in order of what is using the most CPU time. Theoretically whatever is causing the sound to occur should be somewhere in the upper part of the list.
You can use Google or the Start Search feature in Vista's Start menu to investigate what the listed processes may be.

Last but not least, the next time the sound occurs, take note of the exact time listed in the Notification area (provided you have it set to show the time). Keeping that time in mind, check the Event Viewer to see if anything is causing an event to be logged at or near that time. To open the Event Viewer, go to your Vista desktop, right click on "Computer" and select "Manage". You may need to pass a UAC prompt at this stage for "Computer Management Snapin Launcher". In the Computer Management window that opens, in the lefthand side select "Event Viewer". Your system may pause for a moment or two while it reads the logs and then displays a summary of the various types of events that have been logged. The only ones you need to be concerned with at this stage are ones where there is a number in the "Last Hour" column. Click on the plus signs to expand the lists. Then double-click on specific headings to open the list of those events. This can be a very time-consuming task to go through these, but you may find out what is going on. As an aside, the Event Viewer is a tool whereby you can do a lot of effective maintenance by finding errors happening on your system.

If none of the above is helpful, a couple more ideas are: Do you have a Bluetooth, wireless or infrared adapter built in (or installed) to your PC? The sound could be the adapter negotiating a connection with a mobile phone or other device within range.

is this normal? my 8 month old son recently started doing this a few days ago and now he does it a lot.

Answer
Yes it's perfectly normal and as long as his breathing is fine it's just a sound he likes to make. My niece is in a growling phase now. She laughs then makes grunting then growling noises.
