my 3 week old daughter makes lots of loud grunting noises in her sleep..she also seems to snore and will make crying noises but she is not actually awake..sometimes i think she has actually woken up but i will get up and turn the light on and she will still be fast asleep..is this normal for a new baby?

Totally normal. My son does/did this much more than my daughter. We tease about what a loud sleeper he is. . .the snoring, grunting, etc. All very cute.

Are lions the only animals that can truly roar?

BQ: What is the true definition of a roar in the animal kingdom? I often hear about tigers , leopards, jaguars, bears, and gorillas roaring, but to me it doesn't seem to be roaring on the level that of lions. Maybe tigers because its a very loud moaning sound. Matter of fact, I dont think I have ever heard a leopard or jaguar roar at all, more like grunts and snarls.

tigers chuff... leopards and jaguars sound more like a chain saw. mountain lions can snarl and also make a sound like a human baby. It was eerie hearing it. I visited http://www.wildlife-sanctuary.org/
a sanctuary for large carnivores in keenburg colorado and got to hear them up close and pet them.
they probably no longer let you pet them through the fence. when guests aren't there they roam free on 80 acres. Housecats can purr but lions, tigers, jaguars, leopards can't. Mountain lions can purr! hearing a 90 lb cat purr is a fun experience. Visit them sometime..visitation is only allowed twice a year so the animals aren't stressed. See website. They can answer lots of questions .
Adult male seals roar, elephants, and cape buffalo..and some crocodiles. See wikipedia roar..or consult encylopaedia brittania I bought mine at a garage sale..it and oxford english dictionary are indispensable!
