The bottle on elmers rubber cement has a warning not to use if pregnant or contemplating being pregnant, and I am 5 weeks, what could the side effects be? I used it for aprox a half hour of time.

Answer
Rubber cement contains a chemical called benzene. It is a known reproductive hazard. It evaporates and can be inhaled.

You would probably need to use the product for a long term or consciously inhale it. I doubt a half hour in an open air room would cause harm to your baby, but let your doctor know if it worries you.

Edit:

"Some women who breathed high levels of benzene **for many months** had irregular menstrual periods and a decrease in the size of their ovaries. It is not known whether benzene exposure affects the developing fetus in pregnant women or fertility in men. Animal studies have shown low birth weights, delayed bone formation, and bone marrow damage when pregnant animals breathed benzene."

How much does it cost to save chord blood?

RebelGirl

I am thinking about trying to get pregnant soon, and I would like to bank the chord blood of my child. Has anyone had this done? Does anyone know how much it costs? I know it's around $2000 for the first year, but how much does it cost after that time period?

Thanks for all answers.

Answer
What I've been told is that its free if you donate it BUT you have to pay for it obviously if you save it for personal use. However all of my doctors have said that if the baby ever needs the blood for bone marrow etc that it would not be able to use its own because it would just do the same things that the blood he has now is doing. That the baby would end up having to use someone else's blood either way. But you or your family could possibly use it. So overall I would say its not really worth holding on to, I would donate it for the people who need it right now so that if your baby ever needs it in return that someone else would have made the same decision.
