Here's some stuff I used to do for my kids.
First, decorate the front of your house. Get some of that fake cobweb stuff and spread it around. You can hang fake spiders in it. I also had plastic rats sitting around on the porch. I had some rubber skeletons and ghosts hanging from the porch and a skeleton windsock. Hang black cat cutouts in the windows. That's for the scary look. I also did a different look with corn husks by the door and pumpkins sitting around and pots of mums. Then I put cute decorations around and hung indian corn on the door. Or a wreath of leaves.
For the table- get a plastic Halloween tablecloth. I like black with orange paper plates and cups. You can make ghosts to hang from the chandelier or light fixture - take tootsie roll pops and cover them with a square of white material big enough to hang down and hide the stick. Wrap a thin black ribbon around the stick underneath the pop and tie a knot leaving lots of ribbon for hanging.Gather the material so that its sort of jagged and uneven at the bottom. Then draw a ghost face on the pop -two big dots for eyes and a oval shaped mouth. Hang them at differing heights from the light by the black ribbon. Decorate the table with fake fall leaves or a centerpiece of a witch or whatever your favorite decoration is. Get some plastic Halloween bowls for the food. Get a big plastic witches kettle to serve an orange punch in. You can use orange soda or orange koolaid mixed with soda, whatever, recipes online.
Make chili if you want to serve something substantial. Serve in foam bowls. I would make chili and serve peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with it. The flavors go well together. I would cut the crust off the pieces of bread and cut it into a ghost shape-sort of rounded at the top-do two pieces on top of each other at the same time so they are the same. Then take sliced black olives and put eyes on the ghosts. Fill with p.b. and jelly or whatever you like.
I would have a bowl of raw baby carrots and black olives which also go well with chili and they are orange and black! I always had a bowl of cheese puffs or corn curls because they are orange.
I would take jars of soft cheese spread and form it into the shape of a pumpkin-flat on the bottom of the plate, but shaped like a pumpkin-take a small piece of green pepper to make a stem at top,
use sliced whole black olives to form a jack-o-lantern face.Use a knife to put grooves in it like a pumpkin has. Serve with crackers.
I always made those mini-pizzas for my kids-
1 loaf mini rye bread
1/2 lb. Rice's pork sausage
1/2 lb. Velveeta cheese
1 tsp ketchup
1 tsp worchestershire
1/4 tsp garlic salt
1/4 tsp oregano
Fry sausage, drain. Add all other ingredients-stir til cheese melts. Spread about 1 tsp on each piece of rye bread (put them on a baking sheet) May be frozen til baked before serving Bake 350 5-10 min.

If you are just having snacks, another good one is mini hot dogs or mini sausages in barbeque sauce in a crock pot. You can also have slices of apple and pears with caramel dip you buy in the fruit section of the grocery store.
Finish with a pumpkin pie. If this if for kids, have little treat bags full of candy. Have decorations everywhere-decorate the mantle with ghost garlands (DollarTree) and candles and little decorations. Have Halloween cut outs hanging on fridge and doors. If you have a basement that isn't finished it would be a great place to decorate. Hang black plastic on the walls and then put skeletons and other cut- outs on top. You could even have a big tub to bob for apples in. Get one of those tapes with scary ghost noises and turn the lights down and burn candles.
Google Halloween parties. Have fun!

Answer
Mac and cheese with octopus hot dogs

Box or homemade mac and cheese, prepared as directed.

Then slice hot dogs the long way eight different directions until about an inch from the end, and cut 2 dots for eyes and a smily slit across the inch part where the hot dogs are held together. Boil them and the "legs" will squiggle and the face will become more pronounced. Prop the hot dog on top of a serving of mac and cheese. Serve frozen peas or raw shortcut carrots on the side.

Ramen with black beans and garlic. Ramen noodles, drain, then add butter and seasoning packet, along with some crushed garlic, and a can of drained black beans.

You can also serve black beans with mini shell pasta or similar size pasta to the beans, easier to eat with a spoon.

Foreman makes quick work of a chicken breast or a pork chop, or a minute steak or ham steak. You can marinate the meat ahead in anything with a flavor you enjoy. Salad dressings, fruit juices will give an interesting flavor. Serve with a bag tossed salad and a slice of french bread.

You can make dinner prep an event with make your own pizzas, may take a little more time but it is quality time with your kids, can do this once in a while to cut into story or TV time. Prepare a few different toppings ahead of time, make or buy mini crusts, or french bread or bagels, eng muffins, and let kids top their own and help you bake them. You can also make a holiday pizza with homemade dough shaped like a Christmas stocking or a bell, or a star...I did a jack o lantern pizza once for Halloween, sauce and cheese first, then toppings...pepperoni strips made the "longitude" lines all over the pumpkin, peppers filled in the stem, and olives filled in the mouth and eyes.

Grilled PBJ are really good.

Grilled cheese with canned soup and raw veggies or a salad.

Breakfast foods are pretty easy and satisfying for kids. Omelets, pancakes, biscuit sandwiches, breakfast burritos.

You can make taco meat ahead and serve tacos quick.

Pitas with tuna/chicken/egg salad.

You can make a finger food tray: Salami, ham, baloney, roast beef, any or all cut in interesting shapes or wedges or rolled and stacked. Ditto for a couple different kinds of cheese, kids love mozz and cheddar and mont jack and may enjoy swiss. You can add crackers to your tray, and or sprinkle a couple handfuls of pretzel sticks and/or goldfish on top, and tuck in some small bunches of grapes or slices of apple or pear and some baby carrots. Serve the whole thing in the middle of the table, and offer toothpicks and napkins and let the kids take whatever they want.

I have mentioned a couple things that you can do ahead of time. It would be considered an investment, really thinking forward, to do this as much as possible. Whenever you are in the kitchen, try to a
